Writing Opportunity: The Citizen Herald (Online Newspaper/Magazine)
>> Saturday, February 19, 2011
It's been a while since I have written a new blog post but I'm glad I'm finally able to write a new post. I have recently found out about a new writing opportunity. The writing opportunity is through an online newspaper/magazine called The Citizen Herald. The Citizen Herald recently launched February 1, 2011.
I found out about this writing opportunity through the Yahoo Contributor Network (formerly known as Associated Content). The founder of The Citizen Herald, Michael McGimpsey, contacted me through Yahoo Contributor Network this week because he liked my articles and my writing style. After I was contacted by him I filled out the application (which was easy to fill out) and was hired the next day.
After learning about this great opportunity I thought it would be a good idea to share this with other freelance writers.
As a writer for The Citizen Herald you can write about whatever you want as long as it's within the company's guidelines. Some of the topics you can write about are local news, world news, health, how to's, etc.
50% of the sites revenue goes back to the writers. Writer's payments are based on number of articles you have written, number of impressions all of your articles have received, and number of unique visitors all of your articles have received. It is also based on traffic. So having more writers at The Citizen Herald will help the company to get more traffic and it will help writers to get paid more. I also believe the more interesting your articles are the more you will get paid. The company is currently receiving a good amount of traffic and plans to add new advertisers. Payments are sent via Paypal and are sent out once a month. Since the company is brand new it's too early to know how much writers are getting paid but there is a lot of potential with this company.
If you plan to become a writer for the company you can submit your Yahoo Contributor Network articles as an example of articles you have written or you can use other online websites you have written for.
Update: (3/23/11) Unfortunately, The Citizen Herald no longer exists. I thought this was a great opportunity but I had no idea the company would close. I don't know exactly why the company end up closing. Hopefully I will be able to find another good company to write for. Good luck to those of you that are still looking for a great company to write for.
